Part of a group of negatives taken for June 9, 1964, Arkansas Gazette article "Poor Weather Accompanies Ground Breaking for Dams," B1:2. On June 6, 1964, Senator John McClellan (1896-1977) set off a charge of dynamite to mark the official beginning of DeGray Dam overlooking the Caddo River near Arkadelphia, Clark County, Arkansas at a ground breaking ceremony. John Marrow of Batesville, an 87 year old man who oversaw several dam projects on the White River, met with MajorGeneral Elsworth Davis, Chief of the Army Engineers division of the Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, Warren County, Arkansas, after the ceremony.
